**02/22/2024 - The Tannen-BOOM community bonfire event has been canceled due to forecasted high winds which pose a public safety concern. Due to staffing and vendor availability, the event will not be rescheduled in 2024.

Upon consultation with the Mayor’s Office, Plattsburgh Fire Department and Plattsburgh Public Works Department, The City of Plattsburgh has canceled the Tannen-BOOM community bonfire event. As of this release, wind speeds from the north west are predicted to reach speeds of over 20 miles per hour accompanied by temperatures as low as 2 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill. Due to the intensity and direction of the wind, the frigid temperatures, and the bonfire, City Staff have deemed conditions unsafe for the public.

The event will not be rescheduled in 2024 due to limited availability of staff and vendors the following week as well the proximity to the start of New York State’s opening burn ban policy which commences on March 16th through May 14th.

Since the Tannen-BOOM launched in 2022, the event has been postponed due to weather conditions every year. City staff will be conducting an internal review of the event and deciding how to reshape the event for future years. The goal is to continue to host a winter themed event for the community but location and other logistics will be taken into consideration.

Let’s celebrate winter in the North Country! Join us at the Plattsburgh City Beach for a community bonfire, winter activities and more! This event runs from 2:30PM-5:30PM.

Stay tuned for more event details!

This event is free and open to the public. Accessible Port-a-potties will be available for public use.
