June 10th, 2025

Hey Plattsburgh — long time, no blog.

It’s your friendly neighborhood intern back at it again (yes, I’m still working here, and no, I haven’t gotten fired – yet). Lately, I’ve been thinking about how growing up here meant a lot of chill days at home… but never remembering any community events (besides Fourth of July of course).

Honestly? That’s kind of a missed opportunity! So we are trying to change that. We’ve got some fun events coming up throughout the summer, so if you’re craving community vibes with a side of food trucks & fun, keep reading:

June 12: Parks Come Alive - South Platt (Fox Hill) Park
Nature? In this economy? Always. Come hang at our first park celebration of the season at Fox Hill from 4:30-7:30pm. There will be local food trucks, live music from ‘The Lowmen’, community organizations and businesses with giveaways and activities, Ephemer ADK’s solar telescope experience, and even a photobooth to commemorate this experience! Don’t miss your chance to tell us directly what YOU want to see in our parks and public spaces.

July 4th: Fourth of July - Parade, Concert, AND Fireworks!
Probably one of the biggest holidays to be celebrated in Plattsburgh: the Fourth of July. During the day, the annual parade will flood the downtown streets at 2:30pm with a galore of floats from local organizations of all sorts. You’ll also find a variety of food & drink options from food trucks and local restaurants, as well as a free concert starting at 5pm at the Macdonough Monument Bandshell from artists Klark Sound, Ursa & the Major Key, and headliner Sam Greenfield. To finish off the night, enjoy the firework show along the Saranac River waterfront in downtown. After all the excitement, you can take time to replenish by grabbing a drink or bite to eat while you’re out!

July 10: Parks Come Alive - Melissa Penfield Park
Another park celebration, this time at our cherished Melissa Penfield Park. This is home to recreational sports fields, a skate park, playgrounds, and our newly constructed Community Center and bathrooms. Come enjoy another round of local organizations and businesses tabling with giveaways and activities, live music from Quasimojo, food & drink amenities, telescope viewing with Ephemer ADK, and more photobooth action from the ‘Luxury Photobooth Experience’ - you’ll be living like an A-lister in no time! This is another opportunity to come out and directly get involved with the City in helping communicate what YOU want to see in our recreational areas and events!

July 12: Mayor’s Cup Regatta
Partnering between the Sunrise Rotary Club & the City of Plattsburgh has brought the 49th annual Mayor’s Cup Regatta back to the City! Come out to watch sailboat racing, while kids run and color, adults compete in a 5K, and sandcastle contests emerge along the shoreline. Enjoy delicious food and drinks, take part in the Parrots and Pirates Poker Run, or join the fun at the Mayor’s Cup Corn Hole Tournament. Then, kick back with a drink from the Rustic Pines beer garden and catch a free concert by the Blackburn Brothers at 7PM on the beach stage!

August 14: Parks Come Alive - South Acres Park
Our final park celebration of the summer and there’s another hidden gem to be celebrated - South Acres Park. With a large baseball/softball field, a playground, pickleball courts, picnic & grilling amenities, and even horseshoe throwing, we are bringing this event to celebrate this city location. As with our other Parks Come Alive events, offerings will include food & drinks from local food truck businesses, live music performed by Sarah Mitchell, businesses tabling with items to share, and potentially the last opportunity to telescope with Ephemer ADK for the summer.

August 23: Lake City Arts Festival
We’re partnering with the Strand again to bring this celebration of Plattsburgh Arts & Culture back on a larger scale! Wherever you may go, Art is cherished and celebrated around the world - and it's no different here in Plattsburgh! Roam Downtown Plattsburgh’s streets to purchase fine arts to bring back home, meet artists from the local area and beyond, listen to live music from our headliner, Bella’s Bartok and other artists, grab a drink in the ‘Rustic Pines’ Beer Garden or a bite to eat from Food trucks or our local restaurants (there’s a pretty diverse selection if I do say myself!). Got kids? The Kid’s Zone will be filled with chalk art, interactive activities, telescope viewing, Mr Ding-a-Ling and more – this event has something for all ages!

TBH, Plattsburgh is popping off this spring and summer – and we want you in the mix. This could be just the beginning of what’s to come so long as you come get involved – let’s build some memories that don’t start and end with “I just stayed home.”

I hope to see you out in our city!
